The moon reminds us that life moves in cycles. Waxing, waning, shifting from shadow to light—it’s always in motion, just like us. I’ve noticed that my own energy has its tides too. Some days I feel grounded and steady, other days scattered or heavy, and sometimes there’s a lightness that feels almost expansive. On my healing journey, I began to wonder about those shifts. I’ve always believed that we are made of energy—not just physical bodies, but living, moving vibrations. So it only made sense to me to ask: How does this energy live inside me? How does it shape how I feel, love, and connect? That curiosity eventually led me to the chakra system.
At its heart, the chakra system is simply a way of understanding the currents of energy within us. Traditionally, chakras are described as seven centers that run along the spine, each tied to different aspects of our body, emotions, and spirit. I see value in both the traditional yogic view and the more symbolic one—but what resonates most with me today is thinking of them as energy and emotion centers. Places where we hold fear or love, courage or doubt, expansion or contraction. What matters most isn’t whether we know every detail, but whether we’re willing to notice the shifts. Am I feeling grounded or untethered? Open-hearted or closed off? Clear-headed or foggy? The chakra system gives us language for these inner tides, and that alone can be powerful.
When I first began exploring the chakras, I wasn’t chasing answers—I was searching for alignment. And what I discovered surprised me. As I paid attention, I started noticing small but undeniable changes. When I felt shaky, grounding practices brought me back into my body. When my heart felt guarded, a moment with the right scent softened the edges and helped me reconnect. It wasn’t abstract. It was real. Those moments became little resets. They showed me how much awareness alone can shift the way I move through my days. The chakras gave me a framework for what I had always sensed but couldn’t quite put into words—and for me, that language became a guide back home to myself.
One of the most beautiful companions on this journey has been scent. Aromas have this way of bypassing the mind and speaking directly to the heart, the body, the energy. They can ground me when I feel untethered, lift me when I feel heavy, or quiet the noise when I’m searching for clarity. Over time, I began to notice patterns—certain oils seemed to connect naturally with certain energy centers. For the root, I reach for frankincense, myrrh, or sage when I need grounding and stability. For the sacral, ylang ylang and jasmine open me to flow and creativity. For the solar plexus, juniper, lemon, and grapefruit bring brightness and confidence. For the heart, geranium, lavender, and bergamot remind me to soften and open. For the throat, cypress, eucalyptus, firs, or hinoki seem to clear and invite expression. For the third eye, clary sage, rosemary, and cedarwood offer vision and clarity. And for the crown, rosemary, neroli, frankincense, and sandalwood feel like connection and expansion. These aren’t rules or prescriptions—just relationships that unfolded through practice and experience. Everyone will feel them differently, and that’s the beauty of it.
This is only the beginning of the conversation. In future posts, I’ll be exploring each chakra more deeply—what it represents, how imbalance might show up, and how aromatics can become allies for bringing it back into harmony. But for now, I’ll leave you with this: the next time you encounter a scent, pause. Breathe it in, slowly. Notice not just what it smells like, but what it stirs in you. Does it help you feel more rooted? Does it brighten your mood? Does it soften your heart or clear your mind? That simple act of noticing is the first step. This journey doesn’t ask for perfection, only presence. Stay open-minded, open-hearted, and willing to receive—and see where the energy carries you.
