Helpful Tips

  • Know Your Body

If you have POTS, then you should be keeping track of your body and the statistics that matter.

POTS patients should have good knowledge and keep records of their:

    • blood type
    • resting heart rate
    • usual blood pressure
    • medications

  • Treatment Notes

Keep records and notes from every appointment. Have copies of your bloods and referrals so you know exactly what is going on and can consider what helps and what doesn’t or what you want to explore more.

Only start 1 or 2 new treatments at a time otherwise you wont be able to define benefits from any.

  • Keep a Routine

Keep a routine that works for your POTS. Include medications and/or supplements in your routine at what time of day these are best taken so they do not impact you - for example, Vitamin Bs might have an energy effect so not suitable from midday onwards due to potential impact on sleep

  • Medical history and records

Write down all of your medical history and consider when you started to feel POTS symptoms (could be long before POTS onset)

    • what illnesses did you have as a child/recently
    • did any symptoms of POTS appear during these illnesses
    • What tests did you have done during illnesses, and have they resolved? Do you have copies?

  • Be prepared

Keep water and electrolyte tablets handy

Make sure anyone around you is aware of your POTS (wear id jewelry or have an emergency note in your phone)

  • Your symptoms

    • Keep a symptom tracker especially when you are trialing new medications, supplements or therapies so you can see what is helping and what is just wasting money and time.
    • Don’t start too many new treatments or medications at one time otherwise you won’t know which is working or not.
