COACHDPREP CORE EVALUATION Bryce English | 2028 Defender Austin, Texas | Outside Back

Bryce English | 2028 Defender

Austin, Texas | Outside Back

Player Profile

Modern outside backs must do three things:

• Defend in space

• Win transition moments

• Join the attack

Bryce shows early signs of being a modern two-way outside back, which is exactly what college coaches recruit now.

His movement pattern and body language suggest a player comfortable in the game environment — something you can't teach.

This is a key recruiting trait.

• Overlap

• Recover defensively

• Deliver crosses

Bryce has the frame to develop into this role.

DEVELOPMENT AREAS

These will determine his recruiting ceiling.

1️⃣ Top-End Speed

Elite outside backs run a lot of high speed yards.

Goal:

• Improve first 10 yards acceleration

• Improve recovery sprint speed

2️⃣ Lower Body Strength

Needed for:

• Shoulder battles

• Defensive duels

• Crossing power

3️⃣ Hip Flexibility

Outside backs constantly open hips while running.

Focus:

• Hip mobility

• Groin strength

• Hamstrings

4️⃣ Final Ball Quality

Recruiting differentiator:

• Crossing accuracy

• Early service

• Cutback passes

LOP ANALYSIS (LEVEL OF PLAY)

Current LOP Projection

Based on early indicators:

D3 with D2 Upside

That’s a very strong starting point for a 2028.

LOP NOW:

D3 recruit profile.

Future LOP Ceiling

If development hits key triggers:

Speed + Strength + High Level Club Exposure

Projection:

High D3 → D2 starter potential

Potential Growth Path

2025-2026

➡ D3 board visibility

2026-2027

➡ D2 interest possible

DEVELOPMENT TRIGGERS (THIS IS BIG)

If Bryce hits these benchmarks:

Speed

40 yard: 4.6-4.7 range

Strength

Squat: 1.7x body weight

Endurance

Yo-Yo test Level 19+

Crossing Accuracy

7/10 service completion

Then his profile moves into:

⭐ Strong D2 Recruit

What the Yo-Yo Test Measures

The Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test (Level 1) measures:

⚡ Repeated sprint ability

❤️ Aerobic endurance

🔁 Recovery between runs

It simulates the stop-and-go nature of soccer.

Players sprint, stop, recover briefly, then sprint again — just like in a match.

How the Test Works

Players run between two markers 20 meters apart.

The run is controlled by audio beeps that gradually get faster.

The sequence

1️⃣ Sprint 20 meters

2️⃣ Turn and sprint 20 meters back

3️⃣ Walk/jog 10 seconds recovery

4️⃣ Repeat

Each stage gets faster and faster.

If a player misses the beep twice, the test ends.

Your final score is the level reached.

What “Level 19” Means

When we say:

Yo-Yo Test Level 19+

It means the athlete lasted until Stage 19 or higher, which requires elite endurance.

Typical ranges:

LevelPlayer Level10–12Average youth13–15Competitive high school16–18Strong varsity19–20College level21+Professional

So when I said Bryce should aim for:

⭐ Level 19+

That is college-level endurance.

Why This Matters for Outside Backs

Outside backs often run 6–8 miles per game.

But the key isn't distance — it's repeated sprints.

Example in a match:

• Overlap run

• Recovery sprint

• Defensive transition

• Counter attack run

This happens 50+ times per game.

The Yo-Yo test measures if a player can keep doing that late in the game.

College coaches want outside backs who don’t fade after minute 60.

What a Good Score Looks Like for Bryce (2028)

At his age:

Good target now

Level 15–16

Sophomore year target

Level 17–18

That progression builds elite soccer endurance.

Simple Training to Improve Yo-Yo Scores

Coach A Insight

The Yo-Yo test is one of the few measurable stats coaches trust.

If Bryce becomes the defender who:

• still overlaps in minute 80

• still recovers defensively

• still wins 1v1s

…his recruiting stock rises fast.

Endurance is a huge separator for defenders.
