Calmeasures Recalibration Service for XRF Standards
Ensure accuracy. Preserve confidence. Maintain excellence.
1. Recommended Recalibration Intervals
Foil-based XRF standards
Thin foil standards are an affordable and flexible option for XRF calibration, but their delicate nature makes them vulnerable. Even microscopic cracks or holes—barely visible—can skew results if the X-ray beam intersects the damaged area. That’s why we advise an annual recalibration and meticulous microscopic inspection to safeguard reliability.
Plated (hard) XRF standards
These are far more resilient under normal use due to the non-contact nature of XRF measurement. However, over time, factors like intermetallic diffusion or oxidation may subtly alter their properties. We recommend a biennial recalibration cycle to ensure consistency and accuracy, while encouraging adjustments based on your unique handling and quality-control experience.
2. Alignment with ISO 17025 Standards
Per ISO 17025, calibration intervals must be customer-defined—unless otherwise governed by regulation. We provide best-practice recommendations, but the final schedule is yours to determine based on your quality-management system, usage patterns, and performance history.
3. Our Recalibration Process
Initial intake and inspection
Upon receipt, each standard undergoes thorough logging and high-magnification inspection to assess physical integrity and determine if replacement is needed.
Traceable recalibration
We recalibrate your standard using our master references—fully traceable to NIST-certified artifacts. Using extended measuring times, we capture high-confidence readings across multiple points to assess uniformity and verify thickness against your original label.
Data comparison
Each standard is evaluated against its original calibration data. If it performs within tolerance, we confirm its continued use; if not, we provide recommendations or offer replacements.
Added care and service
We go beyond measurement: cleaning where feasible, renewing worn labels, remounting loose samples, and offering no-cost replacement of mounts or boxes. Severely compromised standards may be replaced at a reduced rate.
4. Benefits You Can Trust
- Integrity verification: You receive confirmation that your standards remain physically stable and precise.
- Cost savings: Damaged or degraded items can be replaced affordably.
- Performance assurance: Each recalibration includes detailed data comparisons to prior results.
- Continuous improvement: As we refine our master standards and measurement techniques, improvements roll directly into your recalibration results—keeping your standards at the cutting edge.
Summary
Our recalibration service is engineered to support the reliability and longevity of your XRF standards. Whether you seek annual foil inspections or biennial checks for plated standards, we tailor our approach to your operational demands—backed by ISO 17025 compliance and meticulous care.
