Jake Beyer is a recent graduate of the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce, where he spent four years deeply involved in the first-year student experience as a Residential Advisor, Senior Resident, and tour guide. He also founded a student media company, College Reporting, and was actively involved in campus life through Greek life and student organizations. Drawing from both the highlights and challenges of his own UVA journey, Jake created this guide to help incoming students feel prepared, confident, and at home from day one.
The start of college is one of the most exciting moments in your child’s life—and one of the most stressful for parents. Questions start piling up quickly: How do they register for classes? What’s move-in like? Are they safe? Is there something I’m missing?
The 2026 College Reporting Parent Guide [Digital Ebook] was created to answer those questions and give you complete clarity heading into your student’s first year at the University of Virginia. Built by a former UVA student, this guide compiles years of real, on-the-ground knowledge into one place, saving you time, stress, and uncertainty.
We originally released a version of this guide for 2025 parents and received incredibly positive feedback. For 2026, we’ve expanded it significantly, adding more depth, more detail, and more of the insights parents actually want. This isn’t information you can easily find on a university website; it’s the kind of guidance students and families typically learn the hard way.
