Cosmic Existentialism

Reality Above Dogma. Truth Above Belief. Existence Above All.

The universe does not owe us meaning. We create it.

What is Cosmic Existentialism?

Cosmic Existentialism is a philosophy grounded in a simple starting point: existence is real, consciousness is here, and we do not yet know why reality ultimately exists.

Rather than inventing certainty where none exists, it asks us to confront the universe as it is—to pursue truth, create meaning, live deliberately, and expand our understanding of the reality of which we are a part.

It rejects both unquestioned dogma and nihilistic resignation. Meaning does not need to be written into the universe for it to matter.

We exist. We are conscious. What we do with that existence is ours to determine.

The Standard of Truth

Cosmic Existentialism begins with a commitment to intellectual honesty: Never present uncertainty as truth.

Every claim should reflect the strength of the evidence behind it. What we know must be distinguished from what is probable, possible, symbolic, or simply unknown.

KNOWN — Established to the degree responsible inquiry currently permits.

PROBABLE — Supported by strong evidence or reasoning, but not established with the confidence required for Known.

POSSIBLE — Consistent with what is known, but not sufficiently supported to be treated as probable.

MYTHIC OR SYMBOLIC — Language intended to express meaning, orientation, or metaphor rather than literal empirical fact.

UNKNOWN — A question for which the available evidence does not justify a conclusion.

Reality stands above belief. When evidence changes, our beliefs must change with it.

The Seven Virtues

Truth

Seek reality before comfort.

Wisdom

Pursue understanding and sound judgment.

Courage

Face uncertainty without inventing certainty.

Discipline

Direct your actions deliberately.

Compassion

Recognize the reality and value of other conscious beings.

Freedom

Protect the capacity to choose and become.

Creation

Add something meaningful to existence.

These virtues are practical commitments for deliberate living. They are not cosmic commandments and remain subordinate to reality.

What if the universe has no predetermined meaning—and that is not a tragedy, but an opportunity?

Cosmic Existentialism: A Philosophy for an Indifferent Universe explores existence without demanding certainty where none exists. Beginning with the most fundamental fact—that something exists—Hunter Jarvis develops a philosophy grounded in reality, conscious experience, intellectual honesty, and humanity's place within the cosmos.

Rather than claiming to possess the final answers to existence, Cosmic Existentialism asks what we can reasonably know, what remains uncertain, and how we should live in the space between them.

Through questions of consciousness, freedom, morality, mortality, truth, civilization, and the future of intelligent life, the book presents a framework for living deliberately in a universe that may offer no predetermined purpose.

At its heart is a simple standard:

Never present uncertainty as truth.

Cosmic Existentialism rejects both nihilistic resignation and unquestioned dogma. Meaning does not need to be written into the universe for it to matter. We can create meaning through how we live, what we understand, what we build, and what we leave behind.

Existence is the first certainty. Everything else is a question.
