The Gift of Mindfulness


In a world filled with highs and lows, it's hard to remain optimistic at times. People may say, "Well, that's life." We are placed in situations where we must face adversity and struggle; however, we are not expected to be content with settling for 'mental agony'. That is why we practice mindfulness.


What the heck is mindfulness?


Mindfulness is the practice of resting in the present moment. Mindfulness originated in ancient meditation traditions and has gained popularity in modern wellness due to its numerous mental and emotional benefits. When you enter this state of being, you relax emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Your mind enters a restful state, allowing you to focus on the present moment. This is how you observe your feelings, emotions, thoughts, and bodily responses without having temperamental reactions to the things you consume or react to daily. Mindfulness helps people break free from negative patterns when their mind relaxes and concentrates on inner peace. The mind relaxes, and the body follows suit, usually without dissociation from involuntary bodily reactions. The mind's natural tendency to wander or react to stimuli without deliberate control is normal. Remember, when practicing mindfulness, the goal is to observe these responses without responding hastily.


Benefits of Mindfulness

Simple Mindfulness Practices

  • Body Scan: Pay attention to each part of your body, observing any tension or relaxation.


  • Mindful Eating: Savor each bite of food, noticing flavors and textures without distraction.


  • Visual meditation: Helps declutter your mind and center your imagination on enduring things.


Incorporating mindfulness into daily life doesn’t require extensive training or time. Even a few minutes a day can create a significant shift in perspective, fostering a sense of peace and clarity. This technique is about the present moment. It helps with mood regulation, destressing the body, and to build overall mental awareness. As our lives grow increasingly fast-paced, embracing mindfulness offers a vital tool for nurturing mental well-being and cultivating a deeper connection with ourselves and the world around us.



My favorite thing to do is box breathing exercises. It does calm my heartbeat when I feel anxious. Also, find something you enjoy doing for fun. I love photography! When I feel anxious and want to escape the confusion, I take selfies.
