About Me

Dolly was the horse who changed everything for me.

Like many owners, I thought I understood horses. I’d read the books, followed the advice, and tried to do things “the right way.” But Dolly didn’t respond to control or correction in the way I’d been taught to expect. She responded to something else entirely.

She responded when I listened.

Really listened.

She taught me that behaviour isn’t defiance — it’s information. That tension is communication. That what we often label as stubbornness is usually confusion, fear, or unmet need.

Learning to hear her meant unlearning a great deal of what I had absorbed from traditional horse culture. It meant questioning habits, slowing down, and becoming honest about where I was acting from ego rather than empathy.

I have been learning ever since.

Dolly Communication CIC grew from that journey. It’s a not-for-profit project dedicated to helping other horse owners step into a quieter, more thoughtful way of relating — one rooted in understanding horses as prey animals living in a domestic world.

I don’t claim to have all the answers. What I offer is a perspective shaped by lived experience, continued study, and a deep respect for the horse’s voice.

Dolly showed me that partnership isn’t built through control — it’s built through trust.

Everything I create now is simply an invitation to begin listening in the same way.
