February has a way of surfacing things.
Even in good seasons, emotions tend to rise this month — grief, longing, resentment, tenderness. For years, I carried those feelings quietly, unsure what to do with them.
Then I started writing letters I never intended to send.
Why Unsent Letters Work
They allow honesty without consequence.
No explaining. No fixing. No response required.
Who I Write To

My letters change depending on the season: - A past version of myself - Someone I miss - Someone I’ve outgrown - A life that didn’t happen
The recipient doesn’t matter. The release does.
How I Practice
I set a timer for ten minutes.
I write without editing. Without rereading. Without trying to make sense of it.
When the timer ends, I stop.
What I Do After

Sometimes I keep the letter. Sometimes I shred it. Sometimes I tuck it away.
Each choice feels different — and all are valid.
Why February Is the Right Time
This practice feels especially grounding in February, when emotions tend to sit closer to the surface.
Writing gives them somewhere to go.
