Mistake 1: Disconnect between experience and proposed endeavor
- Correct action: Start with your proposed endeavor, not your past achievements.
- Correct action: Only include experience that directly proves you can carry out that endeavor.
- Correct action: Cut anything irrelevant, even if impressive.
Mistake 2: Vague proposed endeavor description
- Correct action: Answer three questions: What will you do? How? Why is it important for the U.S.?
- Correct action: Use concrete, specific language; avoid buzzwords like "AI" without explanation.
- Correct action: Write so a non-expert can understand.
Mistake 3: Misaligned evidence, especially recommendation letters
- Correct action: Finalize your proposed endeavor before asking for letters.
- Correct action: Letters must demonstrate why you are qualified for that specific endeavor, not offer generic praise.
- Correct action: Delete any paragraph that doesn't directly support your case.
