About Me

LowKey Porter is an American rapper, producer, and engineer. LowKey was born in Far Rockaway, Queens, New York, to a single Jamaican mother. Low grew up listening to the reggae music his mom and her friends would play during his younger years which subconsciously developed into his love for music. When LowKey was 10, occasionally his step father would play chord progressions on his yamaha keyboard, it was at the point that Low started to view music as an art and something he would be interested in. Low started taking music serious at age 12 after his stepfather passed away, his high school days were spent making beats, writing songs, and teaching himself to engineer professional grade music, eventually developing attributes of different hip-hop sub-genres such as Boom-Bap, Trap and R&B. Every summer LowKey would work and spend all his money on studio equipment which was unheard for most 14 year olds in the area. In 2007 Low released his first mixtape “The Burden Of A Genius” which did not receive widespread recognition but motivated LowKey to work harder. In mid 2010 Low started creating music with Champ Elly, which motivated him to start building his own official sound and record label “Freeworld”.
