Meditation

There are many ways to entertain oneself with practices of meditation.

One can listening to music, engaging in chanting prayers or mantras, gazing at an image or object, or simply sit still and focus on the breath for a period of time.

A wonderful meditation outlined in the Shinto Tradition of Japan, involves chanting the ‘47 words of God’. The chant is:

Hi Fumi --- Yo I Mu Na Ya --- Kotomo Chi Lo Lane

Shi Ki Lu --- Yu I Tsu Wanu --- So O Ta Ha Kumeka

U O E --- Nisali Hete --- Nomasu A Se E Holeke

This practice was introduced to the West by Shinto Priest Hideo Izumoto. In his telling of the process he says:

‘It must be done from the hara, the area of belly button or lower. Chant from this spot. A beautiful sound will come out. Your voice will become a high vibration. Don’t chant just from your chest and throat and mouth. The power comes from the hara. With eyes closed, use each word to observe and create the centre of your mindbody, in the third eye.’

The method:

·      chant nine times,

·      then meditate/sit quietly for three minutes;

·      then chant six times,

·      then a two minute meditation,

·      finally, chant three times,

·      with one minute mediation to end the practice.

‘If you chant like this, eighteen times every day, it will change your life.’ Says Hideo Izumoto.

The total practice time is about 25 minutes and the outcome Mr. Izumoto says is that, ‘ You will see light and energy, you will see darkness in people’s body. Every day for twenty five minutes, and gradually the light at the third eye opens up from within. Then, lots of intuition comes. Your guardian kami angels will hear and help you.’

Here is the prayer again, along with pronunciation instructions:

Pronunciation (spelled the way it sounds in Japanese):

Hee FuMee -- Yo Eee MuUu Na Ya -- KoToMo Chee Lo LahNay

Shee Kee Lu -- Yu Eee TsuU WaNu -- So O Ta Ha KuMayka

U O Ay --NeeSahLeEee HayTay --NoMaSu Ah Say Ay Holay-KAYYY.

(Shi Ki Lu --- Yu I Tsu Wanu --- So O Ta Ha Kumeka):

We practice Freedom, Truth, Love, Beauty and Happiness, Advancement and actually becoming God Beings.

(U O E --- Nisali Hete --- Nomasu A Se E Holeke):

We live together forever, for our happiness and advancement. Thank you God, for every one, every thing, and for me.

A 5:50 min audio is downloadable from the Store of Hideo singing this prayer.
