The Four F’s of Stress Response

Recognizing how your nervous system reacts can shed light on what’s keeping you stuck. These patterns—known as the Four F’s—shape how we respond to stress:

  1. Flight
  • Anxiety, hypersensitivity, perfectionism, panic
  • The body struggles to relax and feels unsafe
  1. Fight
  • Anger, irritability, defensiveness, control
  • Energy channeled into resistance and outbursts
  1. Fawn
  • People-pleasing, weak boundaries, codependency
  • Self-worth tied to others’ approval
  1. Freeze
  • Feeling stuck, procrastination, numbness, isolation
  • The system shuts down to avoid pain

Moving Toward Breakthrough

When these responses are understood and gently addressed, the nervous system begins to reset. This opens the door for symptoms to shift and healing to move forward. It’s not just about the body—it’s about the whole self.

True healing requires tending to the mind, emotions, and nervous system just as much as the physical body. When we bring all of these pieces together, the plateau becomes the launchpad for transformation.
