A letter for the mom who is quietly rebuilding her life after divorce...

Dear Mom,

I get it.

I get the strange relief when the kids leave to spend the weekend with their dad.

And then...

I know what it's like to walk back into the house.

To close the front door.

To hear...

Nothing.

Just silence.

The very thing you were looking forward to suddenly feels unbearably empty.

We tell other moms how nice it is to have an "off" weekend.

But we don't tell them that sometimes those same weekends end with us crying because there's no one to talk to.

No one to laugh with.

No one to ask how our day was.

No one sitting across the dinner table.

I get it.

I know what it's like to have all the time in the world...

...and no idea what to do with yourself.

There are a thousand things that need doing.

Laundry.

Bills.

Cleaning.

Meal planning.

Work.

Paperwork.

The cupboard you've been meaning to organise for months.

You finally have the time...

But you're so mentally exhausted that you can't decide where to begin.

Everything feels important.

Everything feels urgent.

And somehow...

Nothing gets done.

Not because you're lazy.

Because you're carrying too much.

The mental load never leaves.

Every school letter.

Every permission slip.

Every sports practice.

Every forgotten cricket shirt.

Every lunchbox.

Every doctor's appointment.

Every bill.

Every bedtime.

Every decision.

There isn't another adult to say,

"I'll handle this one."

It's just you.

Trying your best.

Every single day.

You're not trying to live anymore.

You're trying to survive.

Then Monday comes.

The school rush starts again.

Cricket.

Netball.

Homework.

Uniforms.

Lunches.

School projects.

Finding lifts.

Buying snacks.

Making sure nobody forgets their kit.

Trying to stretch money that already feels stretched too thin.

Wondering, late at night,

"How am I going to keep doing all of this?"

I know.

Because I've asked those same questions.

I've cried those same tears.

I've sat in those same quiet evenings wondering what happened to the woman I used to be.

And somewhere along the way, I realised something.

I didn't need someone to rescue me.

I needed someone who understood.

Someone who had already walked this road.

Someone who could remind me that I wasn't losing my mind.

I was carrying more than one person was ever meant to carry alone.

That's why I'm writing this letter.

Not because I have a perfect life.

Not because I have every answer.

But because I've walked this path.

And by the grace of God, I'm still walking.

He never let go of my hand.

And because He didn't let go of mine...

I won't let go of yours.

So if today feels heavy...

If you're exhausted...

If you're lonely...

If you're wondering who is taking care of you while you're taking care of everyone else...

Take my hand.

Rest for a little while.

Let's quiet the chaos.

Let's find your next breath.

Let's take one small step at a time until surviving slowly becomes living again.

You don't have to do this alone anymore.

With love,

Marlize
