What Makes You Come Alive?
Start With Yourself
As adults, we spend a lot of time doing things we have to do.
- Work
- Appointments
- Responsibilities
- Household tasks
- Deadlines
Somewhere along the way, many of us stop asking a simple question: What do I genuinely enjoy doing?
Not what you're good at. Not what pays the bills. Not what other people expect of you. What makes you feel energized, excited, or completely present?
Think back to a recent moment when you lost track of time.
Maybe it was gardening, reading, hiking, building something, cooking, writing, playing sports, creating art, or simply spending time with people you love.
Those moments matter. They tell us something important about who we are.
Connect To Your Child
Children are naturally connected to what brings them joy. They know what they love to do.
They know what sparks their imagination. They know what makes them excited to wake up in the morning.
But as they grow older, they can start to disconnect from those things. School gets busier. Sports become competitive. Social pressures increase.
The focus shifts from enjoyment to performance.
That's why it's important to help children stay connected to the activities, interests, and qualities that make them feel most alive.
Lesson Explanation
One of the goals of this module is to help children discover their "inner powers." Not superpowers like flying or invisibility. The real powers that already exist inside them.
- Curiosity
- Kindness
- Creativity
- Determination
- Humor
- Empathy
- Courage
When children understand what brings them joy and which strengths naturally emerge in those moments, they begin to build confidence from the inside out.
The same is true for adults.
Many of us spend years trying to improve our weaknesses while overlooking the strengths that have been there all along.
Parent Application
This week, pay attention to your child during the moments when they are fully engaged.
Ask yourself:
- What do they naturally gravitate toward?
- What lights them up?
- What do they do without being asked?
- What strengths show up when they're having fun?
Then ask yourself the same questions. You may be surprised by how much you learn.
Sometimes our greatest strengths are hiding in the activities we enjoy most.
Workbook Connection
This week's activity is called:
Discovering Your Inner Powers
Together, you and your child will explore:
- What you love doing
- What helps you relax and recharge
- What qualities you admire in others
- What strengths already exist inside you
The goal isn't to find the perfect answer. The goal is to become more aware of the things that make you uniquely you.
Because every superhero has powers. The challenge is learning to recognize them. And sometimes the best way to help your child discover theirs is to rediscover your own.
