Having taught science courses for 30 years at a public high school in Northeast Missouri, I came to realize that rural students needed to travel to major cities and other countries to broaden their narrow horizons. Thus for most of this time period, I took them on weekend trips to science museums in Chicago and St. Louis. In addition, my last 17 years before retirement, I took students to tropical countries to collect data for their marine biology research class while snorkeling and/or diving. As an added and very important benefit, they were subjected to other cultures, some of them third world. Since retiring, my wife and I have continued to travel often and thus how I managed to figure out how to get “extra” sleep by using the method described. Old people need their rest:)
