One thing that's always been repeated in yoga trainings I've taken is "You are not the body, you are not the mind".
At first, I had trouble understanding what this meant. I mean, who am I if I'm not the body or mind?
What I later discovered is that each one of us has a True Self within us. We have a body and we have a mind. We are not the body and we are not the mind. We are soulful divine beings living in a human experience.
As a result of this human experience, we've internalized societal ideas and concepts that may not be true to who we really are. We've been driven away from our inner world by outside forces without our consent.
"You need to be thin."
"You need to look pretty."
"You need to wear makeup."
"You should care about what everyone says."
"The Voice In Our Head" is nothing other than internalized "should be's" and "have to's" enforced on us by the outside world.
Listening to our True Self is a daily practice. It takes diving into who we really are and figuring out the best way to express this True Self.
Our truest essence is one of Love and Grace. It's an essence that we share with everyone and everything around us.
