About Me
I specialize in supporting struggling readers to gain confidence in decoding and encoding skills and reading fluency and comprehension. I have a Masters in Education Curriculum and Design and Bachelor’s in elementary education with endorsements in reading, health, and strategy specialist (special education). I am trained in the Science of Reading, Barton Reading Systems, Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, KU strategies, Dyslexia certification, and more.
I have spent my life’s work supporting students with disabilities and all students to nurture life-long learning activities, including dyslexia, ADHD, autism, and Individual Education Plans (IEP’s). My sister, a year younger than me, began her journey through the initial state and federal special education process (IDEA). I was on the Iowa state committee developing the state IEP documentations. My IEP’s are used as templates for other teachers. I have taught in the classroom as a special education teacher for 32 years: 27 years in Iowa, and 1 year in a Christian Academy and 4 years in a public school in Arkansas.
I worked at youth camps, both Christian church camps and secular outdoor/Native American camps, for 35 years. I was and am active in various church work,
