James Ma’J Houston, professionally known as Ma’J, is an independent multimedia entertainer, singer, rapper, author, YouTuber, and creator who has spent more than a decade developing work across entertainment and storytelling.

Born May 27, 1998, and raised in Riceboro and Hinesville, Georgia, Ma’J developed an artistic identity that refuses to be confined to a single medium or genre. Musically, his work draws from R&B, trap soul, pop, and alternative, while his larger creative career extends into writing, filmmaking, visual production, worldbuilding, and digital entertainment.

Ma’J is also the creator of the JAMEN Universe, an expansive interconnected fictional multiverse spanning different characters, stories, timelines, and dimensions. Despite the scale of the universe, its stories ultimately connect back to JAMEN City and JAMEN County.

The JAMEN Universe is rooted naturally in Black and brown life, families, power, culture, and imagination. Within its mythology, Black and brown characters do not have to justify why they belong at the center of extraordinary stories. Heroes, powerful families, supernatural bloodlines, giants, and larger-than-life characters simply exist as part of the history of the world.

Throughout his life and creative career, Ma’J has also navigated dyslexia while continuing to expand his work across music, writing, visual storytelling, and the development of an entire fictional universe. That experience has become part of a larger creative philosophy: there is no single way an artist has to think, create, or tell a story.
