Jennifer JJ Jones

Jennifer M. Jones is the Executive Director of Student Life at Southern Methodist University where she has been employed for the over 30 years, 16 of those years in various positions within Residence Life and Student Housing.  She also served as the SMU NPHC advisor for eight years. She is presently the Immediate Past-President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council and has also served as the past National First Vice President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council and Regional Secretary for the Southwestern Region of NPHC. 

In various capacities, Ms. Jones has given workshops and spoken on college campuses across the country from diversity and inclusion workshops to being the keynote speaker at national conventions and conferences.  She has been a consultant for a number of universities and participates as an assessor with the Fraternity & Sorority Coalition Project. She has served as a Cluster Facilitator and Lead Facilitator for the LEADERSHAPE Institute for over 15 years. She was Chair of the Communications Committee of the NASPA Knowledge Community and currently serves as the Co-Chair for the NASPA Fraternity and Sorority Knowledge community.  She was one of the first to serve as a Board of Trustee on the Circle of Sisterhood Foundation whose mission is to leverage the collective influence of sorority women to raise financial resources for entities around the world that are removing educational barriers for girls and women facing poverty and oppression.  She has served as an Interfraternal Institute (IFI) Fellow three times and has also been a workshop facilitator for the institute.  She is a member of several professional organizations. She is a member of the Association of Fraternity and Sorority Advisors, and served on a number of committees, Regional Director, and the VP of Membership for the Association. She has also served on AFA’s nomination and elections committee.  She sat on the Board of the Western Regional Greek Conference (WRGC) for four years.  She was actively a part of the Body and Soul Ministry in Dallas Texas for 17 years, where she fed the homeless on the fourth Saturday of each month.  In those 17 years she only missed 4 Saturdays due to job related obligations.  At Bible Fellowship South Church she was an active member of the church where she has served as Choir Director, Youth Sunday School Teacher, and served on a number of committees. Currently she serves as Youth Ministry Director at Christian Stronghold Church in Dallas, TX.  She was once the Secretary of the Westmoreland Homeowners Association in DeSoto, Texas.

Jones has won numerous awards such as the SMU “M” Award, which is the most prestigious award one can receive from the university, the Leadership Consultant Council Outstanding Staff Member, Alpha Phi Alpha Outstanding Faculty/Staff, and the Association of Black Students Outstanding Faculty/Staff award. She received the Citizen of the Year Award from Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.  She received the Sue Kraft Fussell Distinguished Service Award in 2009 from the Association of Fraternity Advisors as well as the Robert H. Shaffer Award, The NASPA Bob E. Leach Award for Outstanding Service to Students Award in 2014. Recently, in 2016, the Association of Black Students Unsung Hero Award was named in her honor and the Outstanding Administrator Award in 2019 from SMU Student Senate.

Ms. Jennifer M. Jones received her BA in Sociology and a Master of Liberal Arts from Southern Methodist University. She became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. at Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, Texas, and is currently a member of the Kappa Zeta Chapter in Dallas, Texas.  She is the wife of Tommy Lee Jones, and the mother of three sons, one daughter, and six beautiful grandchildren.
