Johanna Kunin Designs

Johanna Kunin is a knitwear designer and musician from Minneapolis who lives in Portland, Oregon. Over the past decade, she honed her knitting skills in vans, planes, and green rooms while on tour with bands like Thao and the Get Down Stay Down. In 2016, she branched out further in the fiber world, learning macramé and then writing the instructional content for designer Emily Katz’s book Modern Macramé: 33 Stylish Projects for Your Handmade Home (2018, Ten Speed Press). It was this experience that inspired her to strike out on her own as a designer.

She’s thrilled to be releasing patterns into the wild, and to have designs featured in Pom Pom Issue 39 (Polyrhythm Pullover) and Making Issue 13 (Breeze Pullover). Most of all, she hopes her designs will bring joy to others who love the art of knitting as much as she does.

In addition to knitting and designing, Johanna spends most days playing the piano, singing, and trying not to be too distracted by her two, adorable cats.
