Today is Tuesday and Melisha and I didn’t know if it was a new day. The mysterious darkness outside occluded the hands of daylight and welcomed the menacing deluge of the high clouds. The raindrops slapped the face of the earth continuously as the winds rushed against the house. It was 9:00 am. Melisha and I were still bemused by the events that were happening. At least we survived the night together. We still didn't have any reception on our phones. We were both imprisoned in the walls of my house. Frustration was affecting both of us.

Melisha just finished showering. I took a shower already. She wanted her clothes to wear so I gave them to her—the ones I washed yesterday. The electricity was still on. While Melisha was putting on her clothes I decided to go downstairs to make breakfast. After all, this was my house and I was hungry. My tummy was rumbling. I couldn’t bear being famished any longer. I hoped Melisha didn't freak out when she comes out of the bathroom and don't see me. Every noise seems to frighten her.

After ten minutes, I saw her ambling downstairs looking around the place for me. She saw me in the kitchen and joined me. I could tell that she was a coward. Who wouldn’t be?

"Don't ever leave me like that again. I was freaking out for a minute there. I thought something happened to you."

"Sorry about that. I was just hungry and I wanted some breakfast to eat. Do you want some scrambled egg with French toast and a cup of coffee?"

"Yeah, I would like that. I am starving. By the way, you are a good cook." She complimented me. What can I say? I always take care of myself. Taking care of myself, was a common habit. To be honest, I like having someone around to talk to because I was always alone in the house of mysteries. Only when Jean decided to visit me I wouldn’t be alone in the house. Melisha was like a sister I never had even though I know she had a big crush on me. I used to babysit her when she was little and here I am doing it again.

We ate the delicious breakfast I prepared and satisfied our tummies. The deluge was getting aggressive and the winds were getting stronger by the hour. It felt like a storm was coming—a very bad one.

"Hey, Melisha, why didn’t Mary Lynn want us to go to the lake where the police officers found her body?" I asked.

"I keep asking myself that same question. The entity that pulled me off the bicycle didn't want to hurt me. It was as if it was warning me."

"It was Mary Lynn. She pulled you off the bicycle. She warned me and told me not to go to the lake because SHE was coming."

"The demon cat we saw last night was her messenger. The cat was one of her children. If her messenger can come in the house don't you think SHE can too?"

"I think the demon cat was the entity that was in my basement. Every Thursday the entity that lives in the basement becomes very active. I hear strange noises and footsteps. I even witnessed the basement door mysteriously closed by itself. Sometimes I hear strange voices. What if there is another entity in this house that is protecting us?"

"Probably that same entity cast a spell upon this house to protect you. What if that entity is your father, Mattew?"

"I don't know. My father died when I was fifteen years old and his body was never discovered until this day. I heard rumors that he was taken by a spirit—a very wicked one. When I was small I used to see him planting sticks with animal skulls and bones on them. He used to do rituals all the time. He said it was to protect us from HER. At the time I didn't know what he was talking about but now it is starting to make sense."

"That was why the demon cat said you had the gift like your father to see us. You are a seer, Mattew."

"And you are too. You can see them too."

"Yeah, which is very strange," Melisha replied. Bam! Something pounded the basement door loudly. The house was haunted. The paranormal activities had become more frequent. Melisha and I proceeded cowardly to the basement door where the pounding sound was coming. Something was pounding the basement door. Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! Something knocked on the basement door. Melisha didn't want me to open the door but I wanted to see what was knocking on the door. I switched on my flashlight. I could feel my blood becoming cold. I unlatched the door and saw a man in a brown suit with a cigar in his mouth. He was holding a black umbrella. Water slithered from the exterior face of the umbrella and dropped on the wooden floor. The cold atmosphere of the basement gently greeted Melisha and me. I could see raindrops descending continuously in the basement. The mysterious deluge in the basement has baffled me. The man exited the basement, closed the door, closed the umbrella, and then greeted Melisha and me. He had a cowboy hot on.

"Hi fellas how are you both doing?" The man asked politely. Melisha fainted immediately then he took her up and threw her on the sofa. She dropped on the sofa then landed on the ground but he didn't care. I took her up and put her on the sofa.

"Mattew, is that right?" The man asked with a grin on his face.

"Yeah, my name is Mattew."

"And my name is Death," he shook my hand, "Nice to meet you. Very well then, lets us carry on because I got a lot of souls to reap. What can I say? Today is a very busy day for me. People are dying awfully wrong these days. A lady took a selfie while hanging from a pole at the top of a skyscraper and fell off. The way people die these days is so hilarious. Well, their loss and my gain. It's all the same to me. Let's have a seat shall we Mr. Mattew?"

"Okay," I replied. I was confused by the sudden appearance of the man named Death that came from my basement. He wanted to converse with me so there must be a reason for that. Probably I could ask him for some answers about SHE and everything that was happening to Melisha and me. Death and I sat in the dining room and then he started talking.

"You look tense Mr. Mattew but your soul smells ripe for the plucking. I love the smell of innocent souls. Anyway, I know you want to ask me a question about SHE and what is happening to you and the girl in your house but before I speculate about that, I would like to inform you about something important. SHE has signed a contract with me so I cannot tell you everything because it's confidential. However, I will tell you what you need to know."

"Confidential? SHE signed a contract with you?"

"Please do not interrupt me, Mr. Mattew. Today I am on my good side so don't piss me off because your soul is already giving me an appetite and I can't resist for much longer. You are making me so hungry. I could just eat your soul right now."

"What are you here to talk about?"

"Yes, as I was saying. Your father signed a contract with me to protect you for twenty years and that contract will be up next year exactly the fifth of September, 2020 at 6:30 pm, precisely. I am never late for a soul, Mr. Mattew."

"So, what is going to happen to me?"

"Are you that dumb? I am going to kill you and take your soul. Unless you want to give me hers in exchange for yours. I would gladly accept the offer. Virgins are hard to find these days at such an age. She was saving herself for you but too bad you didn't put her to any use. I can't wait to feast on her soul."

"I will not exchange my soul for hers. Let's make a deal, Death."

"I am listening, Mr. Mattew. Now you have gotten my full attention. You know what they say, a ripe soul doesn't fall too far from the tree. Please enlighten me, Mr. Mattew."

"If I kill SHE would it be possible to take all of her children's souls instead of my soul?"

"Hmm...You do have a point but I doubt if you can kill her. She is way too powerful for a mere mortal being like you. You are just a piece of meat with a soul inside it. However, your wager doesn’t seem so enticing, Mr. Mattew."

"I have a soul and SHE has one too so why do you think I cannot kill her?"

"I don't think. I know you can't. I am Death and I know when someone is destined to die. Tell you what Mr. Mattew let's negotiate. What if I were to give you something to help you fight against her and in return instead of killing you in September I will kill you on March 5, 2020. That would be Six months earlier so I don't have to wait so long. I hate to watch a good soul suffer."

"My deal is final Death. I will kill SHE and you will feast on her children's souls instead of mine."

"Good luck with that Mr. Mattew. The sooner you die the better it is for me to get what I want. I gave you a fair offer but you refused it."

"The only reason why you gave me that offer was because you know that SHE cannot kill me."

"But either way you will die eventually so I will get your soul."

"Yes, I will but you will not get my soul. Who is SHE?"

"Well, a deal is a deal. She is the mother of many and she likes to feast on humans’ souls like yours and that virgin girl over there. She smells so fresh. SHE doesn't like you and she will not stop until she kills both of you. Anyway, I must get back to work, Mr. Mattew. I have a lot of souls to reap. Chop-chop, let's go." Death elaborated.

He stared at Melisha and laughed. He scratched his pale face, took up his umbrella, opened it, and then asked me to open the basement door. I opened the basement door then he turned his back toward the entrance of the basement and looked at me. The deluge was still happening in the dark basement. Suddenly, a green radiant smoke slithered in the darkness moderately.

"See you next year, Mr. Mattew. I hope you die very soon." Death said then jumped into the basement while laughing as he descended the eternal darkness of the demon world. Bam! The door closed.
