Every summer break in school from 2004-2011 on different construction sites for about 4 to 8 weeks;

Rudimental operational tasks like hand digging, concrete block paving, kerbing, heavy earthworks, installation of ducts and pipes, formworks, reinforcement, concreting and compacting mainly on bridges and spillways, placed precast concrete units.

Every winter break from 2009-2014 in the Bidding and Estimating Department for several weeks during semester breaks as a quantity surveyor.

• Assessing tender documents and planning different methods to carry out works to optimize the tender prize and program
• Carry out take offs
• Reviewing the contracts to check them for opportunities and helping the Site Agents to organize their sites.

Despite being it full-time, I tried to gain as much practical experience (and because of money) during my semester breaks or even on weekend shifts when the company needed me. For example for striking the formwork of a new bridge during a road closure on the weekend.

6 weeks 2012 during the summer break and over 4 months twice a week during my 7th Semester (2013/14) on a Construction site. A development scheme from the tram services in a medium town. The job included 10M € of underground and utility services, building tram-tracks and road works including surfacing. Tasks:

• Assistant of Site Agent and Quantity Surveyor
• Carrying out and writing measurement sheets
• Preparing and checking invoices
• Familiarized with construction methods

Parallel to study working as student employee at the faculty laboratory for roadworks. 

8 weeks internship 2013 during my semester holidays in in the UK with a value around £14M. A highway construction site as a setting out engineer.

• Set out and conduct surveys with GPS instruments
• Giving Site Inductions, delivering Toolbox talks on safety issues and carry out 9-Step-Safety-Audits (to encourage safe behavior on sites)
• Using Land Survey Software to evaluate the surveys
• Using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 to make little designs based on surveys

I went back to continue my studies.

Working as the Sub-Agent with further responsibilities. The Project was about £3.5M Major Bridge Repairs over Rail Tracks on a High-Speed Dual Carriageway. The project received the Certificate of Excellence from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), a nomination of the best 3 Young Professionals of the Year in the Yorkshire and Humber Region and the Considerate Constructors Bronze Award.

• Management, supervision and coordination of multiple specialist subcontractors
• Keeping and collating records for the Health and Safety File and Commercial reasons
• The Health and Safety of Operations carried out on site
• Supervising the Design, Erection, Maintenance and Dismantling of props and scaffold
• Preparing, reviewing and submitting for approval risk assessments and method statements for Network Rail including Cat3 Designs
• Daily communication with the client through formal and informal channels to address and deal with problems occurring on site
• Inspection of completed works and works in progress
• Programming and controlling

Sub-Agent on a new infrastructure scheme £5.5M. In charge of a bridge construction £750,000 and managing all highway works including drainage, utilities, pavement and managing subcontractors with the Senior Site Agent £4.6M.

I don't know why but since the 4th Semester in University I was fascinated by Major Projects. t the end of 2016 I got a call.

Project Coordinator on a Design and Build 327.5 Mio € highway widening project (PPP-Project). Managing internal processes and linking different departments, including:

• Monitoring the program
• Cost controlling, budgeting and reporting
• CJV Representative at the monthly Meeting with Lenders Technical Advisors
• Coordinating Design Department
• Coordinating the section construction site managers together with the operations manager including monthly budget meetings with the site managers
• Member of the HSE-Site-Committee
• Work Preparation and rethinking Traffic Management phases
• Quick Problem solving for special issues on site and in the work preparation process

Active member in several Proof of Concepts of new software to be tested before launching it in Germany. 

Project Manager for developing a new construction Design and Build 287 Mio € Federal State Road project.

• Interface between the project managers of each member of the consortium to the supervisory board of the bidding consortium
• Developed traffic management system, construction concept, interfaces between members of consortium and work preparation

Construction of LNG tank in Rotterdam, Netherlands approx. 161M€. In charge of the construction and managing the project as Deputy Project Director until the end of the civil works in a self-performing strategy.

• Reinforced concrete, post-tensioned outer tank; 90m diameter and 45m height,
• The project was self-delivered in civil and mechanical works
• Ground improvement works with Vibro-compaction and Rapid Impact Compaction
• Civil works consisted of 15,500m3 of concrete and 3,850t of reinforcement, jump formwork, a prefabricated platform of 50 elements on the dome of the roof
• Mechanical works consisted of steel dome roof of approx. 650t of steel, roof air rising, piping, wall liners and inner tank (approx. 30km of welding), suspended deck
