Sample Answer

Despite my hectic lifestyle, I like trying various activities whenever I get time. Similarly, recently I went hiking when I had a day off. I vividly remember I did it one month ago when I had some SPARE TIME TO KILL. At that time, I went to a nearby hill station with my BOSOM FRIENDS. We decided to go hiking because we wanted to breathe some fresh air and also to challenge ourselves physically and mentally. ON TOP OF THAT, we could easily escape from our MONOTONOUS routine. We hit the trail early AT THE CRACK OF DAWN, after having a light breakfast. We followed a marked trail that led us through the forest, the fields, and the hills. The scenery was BREATHTAKING, and we saw many different kinds of FLORA AND FAUNA. We also stopped at some viewpoints to snap some photos and admire the views. The hike was not A WALK IN THE PARK, as there were some steep and rocky parts, but we cheered each other on and helped each other along the way. I enjoyed this activity because it was fun and rewarding. I felt a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction when I reached the summit and saw the PANORAMIC view of the valley. I also felt closer to my friends because we shared an once-in-a-lifetime experience and learned more about each other. I also felt refreshed and energized since I worked up a sweat and cleared my mind. It was a great way to get away from it all and to appreciate the beauty of nature. That’s how I spent my free day off.

SP3: Follow-ups

Ques: How does having less free time affect a person’s family life and social life?

Ans: When people have limited free time, their personal relationships often take a backseat (become less of a priority). They may miss out on (fail to experience) important moments with loved ones, which can lead to feelings of disconnection. A hectic (very busy) schedule might also cause irritability or emotional distance. As a result, it becomes harder to maintain meaningful conversations or shared routines like having dinner together. In the long run, this can take a toll on (negatively affect) both family bonds and social well-being.

Ques: What kind of activities would you do to utilise the free time that you have?

Ans: Personally, I try to make the most of (use something as effectively as possible) my free time by engaging in both relaxing and productive activities. For instance, I enjoy going for long walks or journaling, which helps me reflect and unwind (relax). At the same time, I love working on passion projects or reading books that enhance my knowledge. Doing things that are both rejuvenating (refreshing or energising) and educational gives me a strong sense of balance. It’s my way of killing two birds with one stone (achieving two things at once).

Ques: Why do people want to escape from their digital devices and try to find free time outside them?

Ans: People are increasingly becoming aware of how overwhelming (too intense or emotionally draining) constant screen exposure can be. As continuous notifications and scrolling often lead to mental fatigue, many choose to disconnect (take a break from digital communication) in search of peace. Spending time offline allows them to reconnect with the real world, nurture creativity, and engage in more mindful living. I think it's also because people realise they’re missing out on real experiences while being glued to their screens. So, they try to strike a balance (find a healthy middle ground) between digital life and offline freedom.
