Chris Summers, Founder of LLM

I’m currently the Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Schools in Montgomery ISD. I’m also an adjunct professor for LeTourneau University and Houston Christian University. Before coming to Montgomery ISD, I was the Assistant Superintendent for Sealy ISD for three years. I’ve also been an Associate Partner with Education Elements where I worked with districts and leaders from around the country as they worked to implement personalized learning and develop robust strategic plans around school improvement. Before that, I spent four years as Director of Curriculum and Instruction and chief academic officer in West Oso ISD in Corpus Christi, Tx. I was a principal for 12 years in the Austin area. (2 districts, 4 schools, 3 of them turnaround schools–that we “turned around”). I’ve been in education for 26 years working across the K-12 environment.

During this time, I’ve been able to work with campuses and districts in developing comprehensive teacher induction programs, mentoring supports, and improving the collaboration of educators through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). This work led to the development of a comprehensive teacher induction framework and a PLC Commitment to Learning framework (both of which are found on this website). I also am working on a book based on the teacher induction program framework.

I have worked in urban schools as well as suburban/rural schools, large districts, small districts, and fast-growth districts. Most of my career has been spent working with low-income or Title I campuses and communities and I also understand the unique qualities of rural districts. I have a real passion for students and families and have a great interest in developing educators and empowering educational leaders to be effective instructional leaders for their campuses.

I have a calling to improve learning and help educators, both teachers and leaders, become the very best they can be for our students. I utilize my experience in leading challenging schools through the turnaround and growth cycles. I believe that leading learning matters, and I believe the way in which we lead our colleagues in the pursuit of learning matters even more!
