Through Trial And Error,

our journey unfolded across landscapes and cultures that reshaped us in ways no preparation guide could fully anticipate. Our collective has lived from West Africa to East Africa, experiencing everything from cash-based societies to second-world systems, learning firsthand how daily life truly functions beyond theory. We arrived with optimism and intention, yet reality demanded humility.

Sometimes we planned carefully, and sometimes we simply winged it. And at times, we paid the price. There were days when food was scarce because power outages shut down ATMs, leaving cash inaccessible. There were nights marked by cold showers in unfurnished apartments, lessons learned after overlooking the simple necessity of installing a water heater.

These moments tested our patience, resilience, and assumptions, reminding us that hijrah is not romanticized relocation, but lived experience shaped through endurance.

Yet, despite the missteps, the good consistently outweighed the hardship.

The adhaan echoing through the streets anchored our days in remembrance. Halal food was no longer a search, but a given. Muslim neighbors welcomed us with sincerity, and children played freely outside, their laughter filling streets untouched by the isolations so common in the West. We found romance and solace in afternoon tea on the porch, as a gentle West African breeze wrapped around us like a quiet reassurance.

Some nights felt cinematic, with aunties playing the oud under moonlit skies, melodies drifting through the air, making us feel as though we had stepped into a film scripted by divine mercy rather than chance.

There were Fridays when the Qur’an flowed through the neighborhood long before the khateeb ascended the minbar, saturating the streets with sacred sound. Ramadan carried a presence that could be felt in every rak‘ah of taraweeh, a collective rhythm of devotion that softened hearts. Eid arrived not as a private celebration, but as a communal embrace, with locals welcoming us as their own, preparing special dishes from breakfast until nightfall, feeding both body and belonging.

These moments became our highlights, powerful enough to fade the memory of every blunder, inconvenience, and costly mistake.

Still, wisdom calls for sharing what experience has taught. To spare you from unnecessary hardship, we have prepared this course with care.

It is concise, intentional, and designed to stay with you, serving as a compass whenever hijrah hiccups arise. Our hope is not to remove challenges, but to help you navigate them with clarity, confidence, and trust in Allah. With love and with abundant du‘a, may Allah grant you all tawfiq. Ameen.
