About Me

Myla Owens has been writing for as long as she can remember. A graduate of the University of North Texas, where she studied creative writing, Myla has always used storytelling as a place to release the struggles she carries every day. Writing isn’t just her passion—it’s her lifeline, her voice, and the way she turns pain into purpose.

She began writing Throw Away the Key in high school, inspired by the hidden stories of family and friends who survived sexual and physical abuse but never had the chance to speak their truth. Although Delilah’s journey is fictional, Myla’s own life echoes pieces of her character’s emotional landscape. Growing up in a home marked by mental and physical abuse, Myla often felt responsible for the chaos around her—a confusion that shaped her deeply and inspired her commitment to breaking generational cycles.

Through this book, Myla hopes readers find not only a thrilling story but also healing, courage, and validation. Her greatest wish is that Throw Away the Key inspires others to reclaim their voice, face their past, and believe in the possibility of a different future.

Thank you for reading her greatest accomplishment.
