Starting out as a freelancer in the field of public health has been both an exciting and challenging journey. For someone like me, who identifies as an introvert, stepping out of my comfort zone and putting myself “out there” has often felt daunting.
The initial excitement of this new chapter can sometimes give way to moments of self-doubt. It’s easy to feel isolated, as though you’re navigating your own little island, with no clear way forward. Impostor syndrome lurks nearby, threatening to undermine your confidence and momentum.
So, what do you do when you find yourself at odds? How do you rediscover the spark that got you started in the first place?
For me, the answer has been simple yet transformative: connection.
Connecting with like-minded professionals has been a source of strength and inspiration. A simple conversation with someone who shares your passion can leave you feeling recharged, refocused, and re-energized. It has the power to quiet the self-doubt and remind you of your “why.”
But sometimes, these conversations go beyond inspiration—they ignite something bigger. They leave you asking, “What if?”
- What if we could collaborate to amplify our voices?
- What if we could create something meaningful together?
- What if we could build a community where our collective knowledge and experiences spark innovation?
Surely, there are others out there who share the same goals: to make a difference, to be heard, to have an impact. But the question remains—where do we find each other? How do we unite to harness the immense power of our community?
Building a community of practice in public health isn’t just about networking; it’s about creating a shared space where professionals can exchange ideas, support each other, and drive meaningful change. Together, we can transform individual efforts into collective impact.
If you’re reading this and it resonates, let’s start the conversation. What does a public health community of practice look like to you? How can we build it together?
