My path into psychiatric nursing didn't start with an NP degree, it started 25 years ago as an LVN. Since then, I've worked my way up through nearly every level of the profession: bedside nursing, nursing administration, and now, Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

That climb taught me something a straight-through NP path might not have. I know what NPs actually need because I've been the nurse handling them the chart, the administrator building the systems around them, and now the clinician using those systems myself.
