Our Story
Hi, I’m Brie!
I’m the mom behind Paper & Possibilities.
This business didn’t begin with a business plan. It began at my own kitchen table, trying to figure out how to make learning work better for my family.
When I began homeschooling my youngest, I quickly learned that simply putting work in front of him and asking him to get through it wasn’t going to work. He’s strong-willed, independent, and likes to feel like he has some control over his day.
So I started looking for different ways to meet him where he was.
I began writing out his schedule so he could see what was coming. I gave him choices about his day and his breaks. We used simple First → Then reminders, routines, and ways for him to work toward greater independence.
Did it suddenly make every homeschool day easy?
Absolutely not.
We’re still figuring it out.
But it reminded me of something I think parents sometimes need permission to remember: when something isn’t working, it’s okay to try a different way.
Supporting the grown-ups, too
At the same time, I was learning how overwhelming it can feel to be a new homeschool parent. There’s curriculum to choose, lessons to plan, records to keep, progress to track—and depending on where you live, reporting requirements to understand and deadlines to remember.
I wanted to feel prepared without allowing paperwork and planning to take over the reason we chose homeschooling in the first place.
And I started thinking about the other parent sitting at a kitchen table somewhere, wondering: Am I doing enough? Did I remember everything? How am I supposed to keep track of all of this?
I wanted to create tools that could help families feel prepared enough to relax into homeschooling— whether they live somewhere with reporting requirements or simply want an easier way to organize their year. Because the person doing the teaching deserves support, too.
Then the idea became bigger
My family’s experiences have also shown me how valuable the right support can be—and how access to helpful resources can change over time. Children grow. Circumstances change. Needs change. But sometimes the things that make everyday life easier are surprisingly simple: a visual reminder, a routine you can see, a task broken into manageable steps, a little more choice, or a tool that helps someone do something more independently.
That made me think beyond our own homeschool table.
What about families who don’t have easy access to resources that work for their child? What about educators trying to support different learners in the same classroom?
And what happens as children grow into teenagers and adults, when practical tools for routines, organization, reminders, and independence can still be useful—but can become harder to find in ways that feel appropriate for their age?
That’s when the idea for Paper & Possibilities really began to take shape. Not as a place where everyone is expected to learn, plan, or live the same way. Quite the opposite.
A place for practical tools that recognize there can be more than one way forward.
Why Paper & Possibilities?
We’re starting with resources for parents, homeschoolers, and educators—planners, learning tools, visual supports, routines, independence resources, and eventually a growing collection of educational materials.
And I have plenty of ideas about where we can go from there. But whatever Paper & Possibilities becomes, I want one thing to remain at the center of it:
Useful first. Beautiful always.
These resources are meant for real homes, real classrooms, real schedules, real frustrations, real victories—and the wonderfully different people living and learning inside them. Because different people need different things. Different ways of learning. Different levels of support. Progress counts. And sometimes, the right little tool can open up a whole lot of possibilities.
The People Behind the Possibilities
Paper & Possibilities may be my business, but the heart behind it belongs to more than just me. My children are the reason it began.
They have taught me that learning, growth, and independence don’t always follow a straight line. They’ve challenged me to look at things differently, try again when something doesn’t work, celebrate progress that might look small to someone else, and remember that there is rarely only one way to get where we’re going.
And then there are the people who have walked alongside our family. Dylan, Katie, and Alison have been teachers, cheerleaders, sounding boards, sources of encouragement, and—when we needed it—the people willing to give us the occasional loving push in the right direction.
They gave their knowledge, patience, encouragement, time, and genuine care to my family. And in doing so, they taught me things too. They helped shape the way I think about learning, support, independence, and what can happen when someone takes the time to really see the person in front of them.
Paper & Possibilities is, in one small way, my opportunity to carry some of what they gave our family forward—to take what I’ve learned along the way and use it to create practical resources that might make another family’s day a little easier.
To my children, Dylan, Katie, and Alison: thank you for helping me see the possibilities. This is for you.
