Pattern Union was created by Sarah Pondevie, owner of Workspace Fashion, Art and Design Studio, teacher and maker of fashion, who has a passion for pattern making. Her years of working in made-to-measure clothing and teaching has given her the breadth of knowledge to create a range of clothing patterns that appreciates the fact that traditional sizing does not reflect standard measurements.
Pattern Union offers the home sewer a new approach to fitting and designing clothes. The manifesto ‘Fit, form and function, without compromising style’ encompasses the ethos of her brand, which is to enable fit alterations that assume not all bodies are the same, and provide the tools required to easily adapt to the individual.
I accept Paypal and credit/debit cards. Download links are provided after checkout.
I do not offer refunds on PDF patterns, since these are digital files. Your computer *must be able* to download, open and print PDF files. If you are unsure about how to do this or need help opening the file, please contact me before purchase and I am happy to help.
The onus is on the consumer to download their pattern at the time of purchase.
Due to the nature of PDF patterns I can not offer a refund. If you have any questions or concern, please let me know. I'll help in any way we can.
All PDF patterns are instant download items. You can download them just after payment confirmation.

All of our patterns are available in PDF format. The PDFs are tiled versions of our patterns that you have to assemble before tracing or cutting the pattern. Some patterns are available in AO.

I have my email receipts & no pattern links?
You are able to download a purchased pattern at the time of a completed purchase, from an email containing a link. Links work from computers and phones. Most files are zipped to ensure faster downloads. Zip files must be saved to a location before opening. Opening zip files directly from an email will only show a preview.
I purchased a Pattern Union pdf pattern, I have no receipts of links to download my pattern. Where is it?
Do you have more than one email address? Check all of your email accounts. Your pattern will be sent to the email address that you filled in on your Pattern Union account.
It could also be in your junk email folder.
Why don't you have extended plus sizes?
At this stage the grading is variable between sizes 6 - 26, depending on the pattern. At Pattern Union, fit is our primary focus, so the sizing is based on suitability of the design. The Sumekko dress only goes to asize 16 as it is a single pattern piece and must fit onto the width of the fabric, and so it cannot go up to larger sizes.
How do I choose my size?
Bodies are all different, each pattern will suggest the best way to achieve a perfect fit.
Seam allowances are included on all patterns and are 1cm unless specified.
Regular domestic sewing machines are fine for all our designs, but you will need to periodically change the needle or thread, depending on the project you are working on.
You do not need a customer account to download your purchase. Here is the process you will see when you complete your purchase.
Your files do not expire as long as you have downloaded them to your device. You have 5 download attempts per file which expire in 30 days. Once downloaded, the file does not expire. No download guarantee after 30 days. We do not offer online streaming or perpetual access to your purchase. SO MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD YOUR FILES AFTER YOUR PURCHASE.
Because our refund policy is crystal clear, all buyers who create a Paypal/bank dispute for any other reason than legitimate fraudulent activity/processing error (not due to a customer error), will forfeit all rights to purchase (or acquire anything for free) in this store for life.
I appreciate your business and understanding of this policy.

Select your size based on the largest required measurement.
If your measurements match the chart, easy! When printing your PDF, use the layers option and print only your size.
If you fall between sizes, you will need to grade your pattern to fit. When printing your PDF, use the layers option and print ‘all sizes’ or select the sizes you wish to grade between. Check the Pattern Union YouTube channel for tips on how to fit and sew your patterns.
Cup Sizes: Ordinarily, dress patterns are designed for a B cup, which is generally calculated by a difference of 5cm/2” between the upper bust and full bust. Due to design ease, this means clothing patterns actually fit a small range of bust sizes rather than just a B cup.
Bra sizes are different to cup sizes in clothing because they are fitted with negative ease across the back and zero/negative ease for the volume of the breast; and just as bras sizes vary according to manufacturer, so can clothing cup sizes, due to fit and design.
Cup sizes in clothing are made with a Full Bust Adjustment, which increases the difference between the high bust and low bust.
Because of the ease in Pattern Union garments, the cup sizes have been grouped into THREE categories:
Group 1: A/B/C
Group 2: D/E
Group 3: F/G.
To determine your cup size, subtract your upper bust from your full bust. The rounded difference for each group is:
Group 1: 2.5cm - 7.5cm/1”- 3”
Group 2: 7.5cm - 12.5cm/3”- 5”
Group 3: 12.5cm - 17.5cm/5”- 7”
Select the bust measurement that best corresponds to your full bust and cup. You may need to grade across bust, waist and hip sizes to suit your figure.
Note: not all patterns feature all sizes. Please check the information listed with each pattern on the product page.
