About Mark Perez-Krywany

I am a full-time sports reporter covering high school athletics in Northeast Ohio, with nearly five years of experience reporting on games, athletes and the stories that shape local sports communities.

My work focuses on game coverage, recaps, features, and human-interest stories. They are the foundation of sports journalism at every level. Covering high school sports has given me a front-row seat to the passion commitment, and opportunities that exist in sports.

My math to journalism was not traditional. With limited college experience, I am a self-taught reporter who learned the craft through hands-on work, repetition, and a commitment to improve every day. That experience shaped my belief that skills, experience, and consistency matters just as much, if not more than credentials alone, and that education should be practical, affordable and accessible.

I created this program to provide an easy-to-understand roadmap for high school students and aspiring journalist who are curious about sports media, but unsure where to start. The goal is not to replace college, but to provide a realistic introduction to sports journalism.

Sports media is a challenging field, but it is also a rewarding one. For those willing to learn, practice and put in the work that allows you to stay connected to sports, tell meaningful stories, and contribute to your community.

Above all, I want students to understand that this path is not out of reach. With the right guidance, effort and perspective, sports journalism is a realistic and exciting career option worth exploring.
