GROOM'S SPEECH GUIDE - PLUS OPTIONAL ONE-ON-ONE COACHING
A LITTLE BACKGROUND
One way or another, all of my grooms tell me that the reason for their worries over their upcoming speech is almost entirely based on nerves and or lack of public speaking experience. I would like to emphasise right from the outset that, whilst these concerns may be real, they are never a barrier to giving a fabulous wedding speech. Please be reassured that I have a great deal of experience in coaching and guiding grooms, and with a little work and a lot of practice, to the perfect wedding day speech.
NERVES, OUR FRIEND!
In my experience, all grooms are a little nervous, after all it's a big day and for many their most important life event to date. Performances of any kind are triggers for nerves. Whether it’s an interview, a driving test, a presentation or a speech nervousness is likely to be right there with you, all the more so when the performance in question is your wedding speech! Nerves are a natural part of life, especially when you place yourself in new situations in which you have little or no experience.
The good news....business leaders, sportsmen, actors and other high performers all talk about embracing their nerves because they know that it will aid their performance. While it might seem difficult to believe right now, what you should remember is that nerves do not have to be something to fear. Through practice, practice, practice of your speech, you can learn to control, even enjoy, your nerves. I absolutely can guide you through the process of creating and delivering a speech that is a blend of thanks, respect, affection and light humour and that I guarantee will delight your wedding day audience.

SPEECH COACHING SERVICE WITH THE AUTHOR
It is also true that most grooms want to do their best and the logical place to start planning a speech is, of course, the Internet. Unfortunately, there are dozens of differing views out there and it's easy to end up just going round in circles, anyway who has the time these days? And AI? Trust me, I've seen a variety of results, you'll simply end up with something that sounds like it's been lifted straight from a website!
I have a proven approach that I have used to help many grooms with the task of compiling a great speech. I provide speech guidance, creation and review with one-on-one training and rehearsals, a guaranteed way to bring out the best in you on the day. As part of the service, I provide a personalised, documented guide that reflects your own and your partner's family circumstances making for a speech that can be truly appreciated by everyone. Throughout our relationship and right up to the day, I also offer remote video as well as in-person practice and rehearsal sessions - as many as are required but usually half a dozen or so.
My clients start from all levels but in summary, we will discuss, plan and create a speech that addresses the following:
✔ Initial meeting to discuss your, your partner's and your family circumstances
✔ Preparation of personalised plan, an indicative style of which is attached
✔ Joint review of the above - often with additions, changes and amendments
✔ Format of your speech, what really must be included, other inclusions, what to avoid
✔ Style of your delivery including do's and don'ts, eye contact, umm's and err's
✔ How to use a microphone correctly
✔ How best to open your speech
✔ How best to close your speech
✔ How to thank people correctly
✔ Toasts, special family and other circumstances
✔ Commencement of final speech creation
✔ Ongoing review - often further additions, changes and amendments
✔ Period of practice and rehearsals
✔ Final rehearsal, usually a few days or the evening before the wedding
