How it Works

I set up this site, because people wanted my artwork in various forms at a reasonable price. The easiest and most empowering way of doing this allowing you to purchase the digital file (JPEG image). Then, like any other digital photo you’ll be familiar with, you can get prints made or use for your business how and when you like.

Here’s how the mechanics works in three simple steps:

1. BUY: You choose and pay for an image you want at a size which suits your needs.

2. RECEIVE: Once payment has been processed, you’ll automatically and quickly be sent a copy of the image file you just purchased.

3. SAVE: You then save the JPEG to your computer so you can use it for whatever you had in mind.

Once you have got the image, you’re free to use it multiple times in printed or digital form, under a ‘royalty-free’ license. Please note: You must not share the purchased digital file with others outside your family or business, this constitutes infringement of copyright; they must purchase their own copy.

Please be aware that the Photon Photography watermark visible on the preview images will not be present in the images you download.

Main Size Guide: S/M/L/O

Most of my images are in an aspect ratio of 3:2. That means they’ll naturally print to sizes like 6x4, 9x6, 12x8, 15x10, 18x12, and so on up to 30x20 inches. You’re welcome to adjust and crop the images to meet a different aspect print size (e.g. cropping off a portion of my ‘small’ 9x6 image to create an 8x6 or A5 print). All images are set to the industry-standard resolution of 300 PPI for the highest quality prints.

I tend to compare things to A2/A3/A4/A5 paper sizes, since most are familiar with those for comparison. But I also provide things in cm for the metric translations!

To help you choose an option for your needs, here’s the key facts and examples of what you can do with each of the size offerings I provide:

SMALL

'Small' is ideal for any online/website purposes, use in video projects (up to Full HD or QHD), and/or any size prints in high quality up to 9x6in (just over A5 size). If you want to make a modest print, a print on a mug, or use for online purposes, this is the size for you.

The precise printable dimensions are 9x6 inches (22.9 x 15.2 cm) at 300 PPI. That’s 2700 x 1800 pixels. This is just over A5 size when printed (or much larger when viewed on most screens). JPEGs of these dimensions tend to be around 2-5MB each.

MEDIUM

'Medium' is for when you want high quality prints up to 12x8in (similar to A4), or want the flexibility to crop or zoom into portions of the image for quality online and video content.

The precise printable dimensions are 12x8 inches (30.5 x 20.3 cm) at 300 PPI. In pixels, that’s 3600 x 2400. JPEGs of such dimensions tend to be around 5-10MB.

LARGE

'Large' can be used for any sized prints up to 18x12 (just over A3) at the highest quality resolution. This size meets most people’s printing needs; bearing in mind the final artwork surrounded by a mount and frame will be around A2 size on your wall if you get it printed to the fullest size. It's also ideal for sampling in any 4K/5K videos, should you wish to purchase the image for such design projects.

The precise printable dimensions are 18x12 inches (45.7 x 30.5 cm) at 300 PPI. In pixels, that’s 5400 x 3600. JPEGs will be around 10-20MB in size.

OVERSIZED

The 'Oversize' option is for those wanting to go much further, with high-quality printing from A2 size right up to 30x20in (or beyond!), ideal for impactive wall art for your home or office.

The precise printable dimensions are 30x20 inches (76.2 x 50.8 cm) at 300 PP. That’s 9000 x 6000 pixels. The JPEG will be around 20-40MB in size, so check your WiFi before downloading!

This is an affordable way of making a bold statement in your home with original, Devon-based art. Once you’ve bought the JPEG, you can arrange your own print, frame and mount to have an impressive piece on your wall, all for under £100! What are you waiting for?

Other Sizes

Some of my artwork will be listed as different sizes for the small, medium, large, and oversized options. For example, I offer several square or panoramic image formats. In each However, in each case, you'll see the sizes listed in the purchase options.

If still unsure about sizes, feel free to email or call me, I’ll endeavour to help you get what you need.

Format

All images are JPEG files set to 300 pixels per inch (PPI), the industry standard for high-quality and fine art printing. You’re welcome to print the image downloaded to a larger size, should you wish to reduce the PPI to 200 for example. But in short, they’re ready to go in high quality at the stated printed sizes. You might find this article helpful as guidance on what PPI all means.

The colour space is sRGB. Your printer may use a slightly different colour space, in which case there may be slight variation in what it looks like on screen, compared to what you then source from a printer.

Be assured the ‘Photon Photography’ watermark is removed from purchased image; I only put it on the preview images to protect copyright.

Royalty-Free License

All my images are provided under a royalty-free license. In short, this means you can print for your personal enjoyment, merch, making gifts for friends/family, or for most business needs, such as using in flyers, websites, and other marketing materials. ‘Royalty-free’ simply means you do not need to pay me a ‘royalty’ each time you use the image for such purposes.

This license type meets the needs of the overwhelming majority of individuals, businesses, and designers. If you want to know more, here’s more detail about royalty-free licenses.

It’s probably easier to say what you can’t do when buying my images: You cannot sell the images on in any way, be it in printed or digital form. This would be a breach of copyright. However, there are some limited circumstances where I’d be happy to grant an ‘extended license’ for commercial reselling purposes...

Extended License

Please get in touch for a bespoke quote if you’re thinking of using my images to create and sell image-based ‘merch’ or other goods. For example, mugs, calendars, canvas prints, and so on. I’d be happy to discuss your needs and suitable size / format. As an idea, ballpark prices for an extended license for an image will be £50 - £150, depending on size and usage.

Why Print Your Own Photos?

Increased freedom and choice, reduced cost.

When you download one of my high-quality artworks, it’s up to you how, when, and where you get prints. Sure, I can sort things out for you, but that’s a more expensive option with a limited range that might not be what you need. For example:

  • Choose to print off your own printer, or at a professional printing outlet
  • Once you have the digital file(s), you can do this whenever you want
  • You can choose your printing finish spec, be it on different paper types or materials (canvas, metal, etc.), whichever best suits your home or office
  • Print at whatever size and aspect ratio you like from the image downloaded
  • Cut out the middleman, get a high-quality finish at reduced cost

How to Get Prints

Once you’ve downloaded your digital photo, you are all set to get it printed, like you would for any other photo file. You can send to a professional printer for high-quality prints, or even print it from your own printer if you have one. Try googling for ‘best online printers’ if you’re new to getting images printed professionally online.

Secure Payment

Payment is made securely via Paypal or your chosen card. Payhip securely manages the transaction. Your email details are required to enable the download like be sent to you, but be assured you won’t be signed up to any email marketing lists (I don’t use such schemes).
