About Me
Dr. Jamese D. Sims is a research meteorologist, atmospheric scientist, and
transformative leader dedicated to protecting communities through science, education,
and innovation. She serves as Chief Scientist and Professor of Meteorology at Jackson
State University, where she leads strategic research initiatives that bridge weather
science, artificial intelligence, and community impact.
With nearly 20 years of federal service, Dr. Sims has held influential leadership roles at
the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), including Senior Science
Advisor for Artificial Intelligence. In that role, she was instrumental in establishing the
NOAA Center for Artificial Intelligence, advancing the agency’s capabilities in
data-driven forecasting, environmental intelligence, and decision support. Her work has
directly contributed to improved weather prediction, helping safeguard lives and
property during severe weather events.
Dr. Sims also served as Chair of the NOAA Science and Technology Synergy
Committee and currently co-chairs the Data Access and Archive Working Group under
the NOAA Science Advisory Board, where she provides strategic guidance on data, AI,
and national scientific priorities.
Dr. Sims holds a B.S. in Meteorology from Jackson State University and a Ph.D. in
Atmospheric Sciences from Howard University. Through Protect the House, she
