Roberto Pregarz was born in Trieste - Italy. He graduated from a Hotel Acadeny specialized in training for the prestigious cruise liners. So, it was from one of the cruise liners that he landed in Singapore in 1967. In 1972, he became the General Manager of the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. 1978 - He was awarded the GOLDEN HELM for the contribution to tourism and to Raffles by ITB in Berlin 1983 - He received the title of CAVALIERE DELLA REPUBBLICA by President Leone of Italy for the promotion on international tourism 1988 - He received the title of CAVALIERE DELLA REPUBBLICA by President Cossiga of Italy for having made Raffles Hotel a Historical Landmark 1991 - He received the PATA GOLD AWARD in Bali for his book " Memories of Raffles".
