About Riley Richard

Jazz Saxophonist | Recording Artist | Performer

Artist Biography

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Riley Richard is an accomplished jazz saxophonist dedicated to making a meaningful contribution to the jazz genre. He studied at the Cleveland School of the Arts, Cuyahoga Community College, and Cleveland State University, where he developed a strong foundation in traditional jazz while analyzing the styles of John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, and Sonny Stitt.

Although Riley had a strong interest in sports at an early age, his parents encouraged him to take piano lessons, a decision that later led him to study flute and eventually discover the alto saxophone. At just 14 years old, he performed his first professional gig with Cleveland’s legendary organist Eddie Baccus Sr., marking the beginning of his journey as a performing musician.

Since then, Riley has shared the stage with renowned artists including Najee, Brian Simpson, Kim Waters, and Boney James. In 2016, he launched his solo career with the release of his debut single, “Family Ties,” produced and co-written by Darren Rahn. The single reached No. 2 on the Smooth Jazz MediaBase chart and No. 18 on the Billboard Smooth Jazz chart.

Riley has continued to build momentum as a solo artist, earning two back-to-back No. 1 singles with “Captivate Me” and “Don’t Wanna Let Go,” which together spent six weeks at the top of the Billboard chart.
