SPACIA X runs from Asakusa toward Tobu-Nikko and Kinugawa-onsen, but choosing the train is only half the decision. The bigger question is which of its six seating styles fits your party, budget and interest in the onboard cafe.
Before choosing a seat: decide whether your destination is Tobu-Nikko or Kinugawa-onsen, then check the exact train and operating date. SPACIA X departures do not all terminate at the same station. Plan the return journey at the same time, leaving room for local transport and sightseeing.
For a couple, compare two Standard or Premium seats with a Box Seat using the complete booking total. For a group, confirm the room capacity and availability before arranging the rest of the day. If the special seat is sold out, decide whether the destination or the seating experience matters more: choose another seat or change the departure accordingly.
If the cafe is central to your trip, read the current official cafe procedure before paying. Priority access is not a promise that every menu item will be available.
QUICK ANSWER
Book a Standard Seat when transport matters most. Choose Premium for more personal space. A Box Seat works for two people who want a semi-private area. A Compartment suits a group of up to four. The Cockpit Suite is the rare, high-cost option for a group of up to seven. The Cockpit Lounge is the social, cafe-adjacent choice.
SPECIAL-SEAT SURCHARGES
Tobu Railway currently publishes these special-seat charges in addition to the basic fare and Standard Seat limited-express charge:
Cockpit Lounge — JPY 500 for one person, JPY 1,000 for two people, or JPY 2,000 for four people
Box Seat — JPY 400 per box, capacity two
Compartment — JPY 8,000 per room, capacity four
Cockpit Suite — JPY 18,000 per room, capacity seven
Ordinary and Premium Seat totals vary with route and with normal, peak and off-peak periods. Check the total displayed for your exact train rather than comparing only the surcharge.
A REAL PRICE EXAMPLE
Tobu's official example for one person travelling from Kita-senju to Kinugawa-onsen in the Cockpit Lounge is JPY 3,840: JPY 1,400 fare, JPY 1,940 Standard Seat limited-express charge and JPY 500 special-seat charge.
CAFE ACCESS IS NOT IDENTICAL FOR EVERY SEAT
The cafe counter is in Car 1. Tobu states that passengers in the Cockpit Lounge, Cockpit Suite and Compartment receive priority for cafe use. Do not buy another seat type assuming the same cafe access sequence.
HOW TO BOOK
Limited-express tickets are sold online through Tobu Ticket and the international TOBU Japan Trip Tickets site, at eligible Tobu station ticket machines and counters, and through participating travel agencies. A basic fare ticket is also required.
