Supreme Class and GranClass are not two levels on the same train. They belong to different railway networks, serve different directions from Tokyo and offer different kinds of privacy.
CHOOSE THE ROUTE BEFORE THE CABIN
Supreme Class begins on 1 October 2026 on selected Tokaido-Sanyo-Kyushu Shinkansen services, making it relevant for journeys west from Tokyo toward Nagoya, Shin-Osaka, Okayama, Hiroshima and Hakata.
GranClass is offered on selected Tohoku, Hokkaido, Hokuriku and Joetsu Shinkansen services, making it relevant for journeys north or toward destinations such as Kanazawa and Niigata.
PRIVATE CABIN OR PREMIUM OPEN CABIN?
Supreme Class is sold as a private cabin: Car 10 for one guest and Car 7 for up to two guests. GranClass is a premium open cabin with 18 seats. JR East describes the seats as spacious and designed to provide privacy, but it is not the same enclosed-room concept.
CHECK THE GRANCLASS SERVICE LABEL
Do not assume every GranClass booking includes the same food and drink service. JR East explicitly labels some services GranClass (No Beverage or Light Meal Service).
