About Me
Steven Omondi Otieno is a Strategic Communication Specialist and a journalist focused on driving social progress through impactful storytelling. After graduating with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), he began his career in broadcast at Radio Lake Victoria and Lubao FM, where he cultivated a passion for community narratives. He then refined his expertise in institutional storytelling and reputation management while serving in the Directorate of Corporate Communication and Marketing at MMUST.
Currently, Steven works at the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA) where he supports communication strategies that connect policy, innovation, and the society. His work involves translating national development goals into tangible human impact.
Driven by a passion for writing, he has published numerous commentaries in major news and information outlets, including The Standard and Daily Nation, exploring Kenya’s social, environmental, and economic dynamics. In 2023, his work earned him a prestigious Journalists Special Grant from the Media Council of Kenya for high-impact communication and digital storytelling.
Inspired by his grandmother’s resilience, Steven is the author of Shadows of the Eighty Cows, a narrative that fuels his mission to restore dignity and voice hope to marginalized communities. Whether through writing or advocacy, his work consistently amplifies silenced voices and frames true resilience as quiet strength and an act of self-determination.
