Richard "Gary" Saylor
I have spent 40 years working in safety and security. Joining the US Marine Corps at age 17, I served two tours of duty as a Marine Security Guard (MSG), first at US Embassy New Delhi, India, and second at the US Embassy in Tele Aviv, Israel. Working my way through college, I spent my evenings studying while working at hospitals and factory security jobs. I graduated from American University in Washington, D.C. with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.
After graduating, I was hired to work for the US Department of State’s Terrorism Intelligence
Office as an Intelligence Research Specialist. A year later, I was hired as a Federal Agent with the US Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) where I served for 24 years as a Special Agent; “Absolutely the best job in the federal government!” As a special agent, I worked on numerous safety and security programs in many countries around the world. I retired in 2007 and was hired as a Knowledge Management Officer (KMO) for the Bureau of Diplomatic Security. As KMO, I spent the next 10 years developing many successful IT projects that improved the management and efficacy of DSS security programs worldwide.
