About Us

One peaceful afternoon in 2019, Skye revelated to her partner Stevie that she has just purchased a secondhand 2010 Mecedes Sprinter from a retired courier driver, and shared her desire to transform it into an off-grid camper. Surprise! Skye has always been spontaneous, and this is something Stevie secretly admired. They coined it the ‘Van Halen Project’.

It had just clocked 150K and at first, and in full disclosure, it seemed that Stevie wasn’t too keen. He had previously moved away from building and toward a more project management role in the music industry, but after some soul searching, travelling around and camping in tents, it was almost a no-brainer. The following year, they found themselves in the grips of COVID restrictions, and the reality that music festivals were now a questionable pursuit for the future, Skye did some research and found platforms where you can list your vans for hire, and this is where it all began.

Skye is the driving force behind all avenues of Salt Bush Campers and Stays. Using her bachelors degree in marketing and a passion for travel and culture, Skye’s entrepreneurial mindset founded the conceptual delivery of Salt Bush Campers in the first place. She continued creating relations in the tourism industry, and pursuing other arms for the business, now also known as Salt Bush Stays. Skye’s passion for nature and travel is boundless and inspirational.

Stevie now has a diploma in Project Management, and has since pivoted his skills to pursue van building and sustainable off-grid living and creative design (now including Tiny Homes). The pursuit has delivered the builds for all 10 of our Salt Bush Campers, and they don’t disappoint. I trust you’ll enjoy such a warming introduction to van building, and how to get the best out of your first camper build.
