The Discovery:
Healthy boundaries are created when awareness turns inward.
Because when the lantern is pointed outward, boundaries often feel defensive.
They’re about danger.
Protection. Avoidance.
Keeping people out.
“Don’t hurt me.”
“Don’t cross this line.”
“Don’t take from me.”
And sometimes they need to be that.
But as I turn inward and begin to recognize that I belong to myself.
Boundaries have started to feel different.
They have become an act of stewardship.
Where are boundaries made?
Here.
In the moment I realized I belong to myself.
And once that realization landed, boundaries became the natural consequence.
Not from fear.
But Love.
Not:
Keep out.
But:
This is sacred. 🌸
The energy shifts from guarding myself against others to caring for what matters.
A garden fence isn’t built because the flowers are bad.
It’s built because the flowers are precious.
A jewelry box isn’t locked because the jewelry is dangerous.
It’s locked because it’s valuable.
A mother doesn’t hold her child’s hand because the child is wrong.
She holds it because the child is precious.
To keep them safe.
To keep them close.
And that’s what is happening within me.
I’m becoming more protective of the little girl.
More protective of the fragile woman.
Of the whimsical parts of me.
Not because they’re weak.
Because they’re sacred.
Which means my boundaries are changing from:
How do I stop people from hurting me?
to
How do I honor what is precious within me?
That’s a completely different question.
One comes from fear.
The other comes from reverence.
And isn’t that beautiful?
Because for so much of my life, boundaries felt like walls.
Now they feel like a sanctuary.
A temple has walls.
Not because it’s rejecting the world.
Because something holy happens inside.
And now I’m seeing the thread connecting everything. 🧶
Belonging → I belong to me.
Self-closeness → I stay with me.
Presence → I’m here.
Boundaries → I protect what is sacred.
Not because I’m becoming harder.
Because I’m becoming more devoted.
Because we protect what’s vulnerable.
Because we naturally protect what we cherish.
When belonging turns inward, boundaries are no longer about keeping people out.
They become a way of keeping what is sacred safe. 🪔
And then life becomes:
I don’t play about me.
I love this for me.
For it is well with my soul. ✨
