I’ll be honest — when we started, none of this made any sense to me. Planning, budgets, regulations, who you even need on your team… it was overwhelming, and everything I read was full of jargon or written for people who already knew what they were doing.

So I decided to actually make sense of it. I started researching everything, following other self-builders, asking questions, and slowly piecing it all together in plain English — the way I wish someone had explained it to me.

Then I thought: why not share it? So that’s what SelfBuildStory is. I post what I’m learning as I go, and turn it into clear, no-jargon guides to help others starting the same journey.

I’m not an expert — I’m a self-builder figuring it out alongside you. But everything here is properly researched, checked, and built to save you the time, stress and costly mistakes we nearly made ourselves.
