Some people aren’t afraid of anger.
They’re afraid of what happens when they finally stop swallowing it.
Many of us were taught that anger is dangerous.
Especially women.
Especially Black women.
We were praised for being agreeable.
Accommodating.
Easy to get along with.
But here’s what I want you to consider:
What if anger isn’t your enemy?
What if anger is information?
Healthy anger says:
“Something isn’t okay.”
“A boundary has been crossed.”
“I’ve been hurt.”
“I’ve been ignored.”
“I’ve been carrying too much for too long.”
The problem isn’t anger.
The problem is what happens when people are never taught how to express it safely.
Some explode.
Some implode.
Some become passive aggressive.
Some become depressed.
Some become emotionally numb.
Some become physically sick.
Because emotions don’t disappear.
They simply find another place to live.
Shadow work invites us to become curious instead of ashamed.
Instead of asking,
“Why am I so angry?”
Ask,
“What has my anger been protecting?”
Maybe grief.
Maybe fear.
Maybe humiliation.
Maybe betrayal.
Maybe years of having your needs ignored.
Anger often stands guard over the most vulnerable parts of us.
