You Can't "Control" Your Way Into Feeling Safe

Be Honest...Trying to Manage Everything Is Exhausting

Control often looks responsible.

It looks organized, strong, structured, and well put together.

But deep down beneath that need to control everything is something much more vulnerable:

Fear.

People who need control are rarely trying to dominate others.

They're trying to prevent pain.

They are trying to avoid uncertainty.

They are trying to guarantee they won't be disappointed again.

The Controller Shadow says:

  • "If I do everything myself, nothing will ever go wrong."
  • "I always have to stay three steps ahead."
  • "I can't let anybody catch me slipping."
  • "People can't be trusted."
  • "Rest is dangerous, so I have to keep my head on swivel at all times."

But here's the truth:

Control creates the illusion of safety.

Not actual safety.

No amount of planning can eliminate grief.

No amount of worrying can prevent betrayal.

No amount of perfection can guarantee love.

Healing isn't learning how to control more.

It's learning how to trust yourself when life becomes uncertain.

Reflection Questions:

  • What am I trying to protect myself from?
  • When do I struggle to let others help me?
  • What happens when things don't go according to my plan?
  • Am I really managing my life or am I just trying to manage my anxiety?

Hypervigilance is exhausting.

You deserve peace and Shadow work can show you how.
