Intermediate/Advanced

Guitar instruction for the serious student. Serious Guitar is a 243 page, top-notch, comprehensive, in-depth study of scales, chords, progressions (songs) and the harmonic ideas of improvisation. Theory from A to Z is literally covered from the beginning with no assumptions as to what a student may or may not already know. You'll end up understanding what the best musicians on the planet understand - how music works and how to improvise. The style you play is up to you.

All content is highly detailed, well thought out, step-by-step instruction that includes exactly how to effectively practice topics using the entire fret board. And you'll feel as though a teacher is right next to you telling you what to practice next. This is college level instruction - in fact, many students have used Serious Guitar in lieu of attending a music college, saving many thousands of dollars in the process. (This material is also perfect for high school students who are intent on eventually attending a music college because they'll have a very substantial, solid, head-start.) Serious Guitar is Michael's only release. Why? You won't need another guitar instruction book. This is one you will keep for life.

For less than the cost of a single private lesson, you'll be receiving many years of the best instruction possible. Tab and notation included throughout with simple to very advanced examples. 1-2 years playing experience recommended.

Note: Please use "Preview" to access the Table of Contents and the "arrows" to scroll through several page examples. Keep in mind that everything you see and read on these pages has been thoroughly explained on previous pages in the book. Page examples may display slightly blurry on some screens. Rest assured, the quality of the eBook is crystal clear.

A Teacher's Teacher

Years of dedicated study led me to the place I'm at now: understanding how music works - all styles - and how to relate this to the guitar. It didn't start smoothly though. A lot of wasted time, effort and money was put into books and teachers that didn't deliver much. There was a long period of confusion about what all these bits and pieces were for. I had some ability but I certainly didn't "get it." Luckily, I finally found a uniquely talented Jazz player/instructor who began to put all the "missing pieces" together.

I wrote Serious Guitar so that others won't have to go through the long, aggravating and expensive process of trial and error like I did. From beginning to end, it's all here in one place - no bad information, no gaps in coverage, no confusing terms - just clear continuity of thought with useful concepts from beginning to end.

After some time teaching I began to notice that some students who had graduated from well known music colleges, had surprisingly incomplete ideas related to theory topics and more importantly, what they really meant and how to use them. Several local guitar teachers had already been studying with me but it got to a point where a few college music professors also seeked me out to get some incomplete concepts fleshed out.

Being able to play anything from Rock to Pop, Blues to Jazz and anything in between is a freeing position to be in, and it certainly can be a lot of fun too. Writing, performance, recording and teaching are all things I've been involved with and these abilities are available to any talented musician once the mechanics of music are clearly understood.

Make no mistake - there is work to be done but with patience, dedication and a little talent Serious Guitar can take your understanding and abilities to a very high level.

"I was one of the guys who saved potentially 100k of student loan debt because I started studying this book when I was 15. I could play really well but knew nothing about music theory, it really is a complete music theory/guitar education if you take the time to go through it. Thanks Michael!"

"I started with this book more than 10 years ago, and to date I still refer to it for all of its comprehensive and amazing information. It is an invaluable resource for any guitar player. I highly recommend it! I hope this shares a bit of critical acclaim and spurs excitement for this latest project.”

"This is what I was looking for! Finally a real instruction course book with superlative theory information that is comprehensive and easy to understand. I've had so called lessons that got me nowhere. I never got past memorizing songs from tabs. I've never been able to really figure out a solo or know the theory behind what I was playing. I ordered Michael's book a few weeks ago and in that short time I've found myself actually noodling around to backing tracks and it sounds like legitimate music!

"Michael...plain and simple...you Rock! I've had a few texts that I've referred to over the years, however your thoughts and organization in Serious Guitar are TOP NOTCH and have a real impact on my understanding of music. Thank you for taking the time to put this all together! All my best to you and your loved ones."

"Hi Mike, I'd be interested in buying a pack of 10 of your books. I doubt you'd remember me but I took lessons from you 15 years ago. Later I went to Musician's Institute to see what that was all about and now I'm teaching in Arkansas. Your book covers more and explains the material even better than the MI materials do and I want to share that with my students."

"I bought your book almost 10 years ago and it's still my 'go to' book all these years later. Thank you for the years of lessons and inspiration you've provided through this book. You have single-handedly taken my playing to the next level! (Okay, I guess I use two hands.)"
