SuFri Craftz

SuFri Craftz – the beginning and the follow up…

In 2015, while on a course about brain creativity, it became evident that my creativity levels had not developed at the same rate as other parts of my brain, although I had been working in the creative business for the biggest part of my adult life. Shortly afterwards I was wondering through the craft shops in Linden and noticed mosaic tiles and stock on display and recognised this as the activity I wanted to explore. After a few lessons, I kicked off with some serious mosaic creations…all in straight lines with the only variation being the shades of the same colour! These straight lines gradually turned into circles and semi-circles and full tiles became nipped. I discovered inserts, pebbles, beads and other media, including making my own glass tiles with themed photos. The “art work” became a bit more creative although colour and colour co-ordination remained a serious consideration.

I managed to display some of the work in different art and craft shops for periods of time and attended a few markets.

When I then met a lady who taught me how to work with modge podge, serviettes, stencils, etc, I became hooked…again! And I still am! The only problem now was to find a theme (or inspiration!) for a piece. Sometimes you would watch a movie, listen to music, walk through the mall or just lie on your bed and a concept would be born…

In the meantime, my niece, developed a serious desire to working with mosaic. I handed over my mosaic stock and the creations started rolling in. As always, the first number of items were made person specific and went for gifts. More raw material was purchased. Mosaic art work turned into resin productions, some items made of pure resin, some only finished off with resin coatings. These included clocks, trays, key racks, etc.

In January SuFri Craftz was created and we attended our first arts and crafts market…the serious business of marketing has started.
