Mental Health Awareness Month: Why Honoring This Month Matters

Mental Health Awareness Month: Why Honoring This Month Matters

May isn’t just another month—it’s Mental Health Awareness Month, and if we’re being real… it’s something we should be honoring all year long.

But this month?

This month is an intentional pause.

A moment to reflect, check in, and tell the truth about how we’re really doing—mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Because healing isn’t just a trend.

It’s a necessity.

🧠 Why Mental Health Deserves Your Attention

For so long, mental health was something people whispered about… or ignored completely.

“Pray about it.”

“Be strong.”

“You’ll be fine.”

And while faith is powerful (and we will never remove God from the equation), the truth is:

God never intended for us to suffer in silence.

Honoring your mental health means:

  • Acknowledging when you’re not okay
  • Giving yourself permission to feel
  • Seeking support—whether that’s therapy, community, or time alone with God

It’s not weakness.

It’s wisdom.

💭 Healing Changes Everything

When you start prioritizing your mental health, everything shifts.

You start:

  • Seeing people differently
  • Setting boundaries without guilt
  • Letting go of what drains you
  • Choosing peace over chaos

Healing will have you outgrowing environments, conversations, and even versions of yourself you thought you needed.

And that’s not loss…

That’s alignment.

🕯️ Why This Month Matters More Than You Think

Mental Health Awareness Month brings something powerful to the surface:

Awareness creates permission.

Permission to:

  • Speak up
  • Get help
  • Break generational cycles
  • Stop pretending everything is okay when it’s not

It reminds us that we are not alone in what we feel.

There are people silently battling anxiety, depression, burnout, grief—and still showing up every day.

So this month isn’t just about awareness.

It’s about compassion—for others, but especially for yourself.

🙏🏾 Faith + Healing Can Coexist

Let’s be clear:

Choosing therapy does not mean you lack faith.

Taking medication does not mean you don’t trust God.

Resting does not mean you’re lazy.

God works through resources, people, and processes.

Sometimes healing looks like:

  • Prayer AND therapy
  • Faith AND boundaries
  • Trusting God AND doing the inner work

You can hold both.

🌸 Your Reminder This Month

As you move through May, I want you to remember this:

You are allowed to:

  • Rest without explaining yourself
  • Feel without rushing the process
  • Heal without guilt
  • Choose yourself without apology

Your mental health matters.

Your peace matters.

You matter.

✨ The Healing Forecast

This month, check in with yourself daily:

  • How am I really feeling?
  • What do I need today?
  • What am I holding onto that I need to release?

Light your candle.

Sit with yourself.

Talk to God.

And be honest.

Because healing doesn’t start when everything is perfect—

it starts when you decide to face what’s real.
