Some of you may remember late last year 2020 reading on my IG about another designer having developed a pattern very similar to my own 'Edge of Dijon' socks which I'd originally released back in 2014. This designer was charging for that design/pattern as she has the right and there was enough differences established in both designs when we discussed both our socks features that we were both happy in our exchange and continued on.
However that design sparked a realisation that the pattern/design I'd been giving out for so long as a Freebie was worth way more to me than I'd originally thought. I'd put a lot of time, effort and energy to produce it and at first I'd put it for free as a way to establish some ground work and be seen designing but seeing this other design mimicking similar qualities, well.... it lit a fire in me!
It made question and realise that I am passionate about my designs and my creations and that I want others to see that and value it too, I wouldn't want my designs to be seen as cheap and worthless.
And so the relaunch and rebirth of an old design began, I know it took me a while to complete the finished product but it's been very worthwhile and I wanted it to be better and more visually appealing than it's basic predecessor.
Straightaway a new flow of inspiration came from this old design and I started making plans for taking the old pattern and sampling the gauge on a smaller needle to make a more fitted version that could be worn inside the original slouchy house sock the too paired together would be extremely cosy and such a cute idea. The slouchy version can already be worn with other socks but to have a hidden matching pair inside like a foot warmer, just made me smile.
I looked over the original pattern and made a list of things that would be beneficial to update and improve on like not giving ball amounts but giving approximate yardages as they are way more useful than ball amounts especially when trying to figure out if you have enough to use a scrap colour for the cuff or when substituting yarns plus the yarn used was discontinued awhile ago.
Features like knitters space for taking notes and a mini Kitchener guide which is always so useful for completing the last step of your socks and if you're like me I always forget which way round the sequence goes. Designer Notes for little snippets of information that I might already know and understand about my pattern but that other/newer knitters might not have come across before. Like don't just assume everyone will know how to go about reading your individual approach to pattern instructions (although you can always enquire too). I tried to make as many improvements as I could on this design to make it 100 percent valued by you as a knitter and by myself as the maker.
All in all I felt it was a very successful finish even after procrastinating about taking photos for months.
Yes I still get nerves about somethings and images are number 1, one day to be able to find help in this department until then you can have Lincoln cat outtakes as an extra bonus!
